2022 Race Season Review

Our 1965 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce started it’s race career in the 1990s where it was prepared in Germany and raced extensively throughout the decade and into the early 2000s by Veit Avemarg with notable success at legendary Nurburgring and Spa Francochamps. It later moved to new ownership in Scotland with Doug Martin and again delivered the results with a majestic race win at Monza in 2010 with Scuderia Del Portlello - Coppa Intereuropa.

We met the drop dead gorgeous Spider early 2021 following some good years as a weekend cafe racer having been de-tunned significantly and made more south of England comfortable. Our missing became to bring the little Italian back to the fast lane and winning races. Little did we know that the project will be the start of Alficina Corsa. Having raced a 1965 Giulia Super previously, our MD Cip Nistorica managed the project from the start with a mission to return the Spider Veloce back to race circuits of UK and why not further afield. We have proceeded to strip every single component starting with suspension and brakes, renew and upgrade where possible for example new race shock absorbers from Alfaholics, new FIA certified fuel tank. Our in-house race wiring specialist put together and fitted a new loom with a central control panel in driver’s reach.

Having completed a shake down at Donington in August, we booked for our first race at Silverstone with Equipe GTS. A gruelling 45 minutes race with mandatory pitstop that we were so looking forward to! We had a decent start and after settling in into a rhythm we crossed the line P1 in our 1600cc class.

Not long after and it was time to go racing yet again, Silverstone once more on the same National layout very familiar for our driver. On this occasion, the race was even longer at 60 minutes also with a pitstop. Although we battled hard and tried to catch up, we were unable to improve on P2 in class.

In our final race of 2022, we returned to Silverstone in early November to race on the legendary Silverstone GP circuit. Three races in a row at Silverstone, already familiar with a great venue for motorsport. In a competitive grid, we started the day with biblical rain for qualifying where we placed mid pack against much faster cars that were unable to put the full power down. As the day progressed, the weather improved and the circuit dried leaving us a sitting duck against Cobras and E-Types. Nevertheless we finished P3 in our class, taking away a good result from all 3 races.

At the end of the season, we were delighted with our achievement of having built an 100% reliable race car that in favourable moment can fights against the big guns! Onwards and upwards!
