Alfa Romeo GTV Restomod
In our workshops, we’re currently working on an Alfa Romeo GTV (Gran Turismo Veloce). This 1975 Alfa Romeo is undergoing a full restomod transformation that blends classic Italian style with modern performance and reliability, much like the Alfa Romeo GT Junior we have recently completed. Our experienced restoration technicians have recently finished the extensive metalwork required on the GTV. The 1975 Alfa Romeo is now being reassembled with a range of high-spec upgrades.
The Alfa Romeo GTV was in production between 1965 and 1976 and was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The 2000 GTV model originally used Alfa Romeo’s legendary twin-cam inline-4 engine and achieved 130 hp, going from 0-60 mph in 9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 120-125 mph. The GTV is known for its perfect proportions, compact body, and aggressive stance. The Gran Turismo Veloce is a more performance-oriented and premium version of the GT Junior.
To begin the restoration and restomod process, we addressed all the necessary metalwork on the GTV. Like many classic cars, older Alfa Romeos are particularly prone to rust — the persistent enemy of their beloved steel bodies. This was something we monitored closely throughout the restoration to ensure lasting structural integrity and finish. This involved cutting out any signs of corrosion, then welding new panels in place or patching up sections of the metalwork as required. After the panels were aligned, the GTV was sent to be painted.
We're currently in the process of reassembling this Gran Turismo Veloce, integrating a carefully selected range of high-tech upgrades agreed upon with the client. Some of these upgrades include the installation of a fast road spec 2.0L engine, which will include high-compression pistons, performance cams, a ported cylinder head and a lightened flywheel. This will deliver better throttle response, more top-end power and sportier performance, whilst remaining reliable and safe to use on the road.
Additionally, the 5-speed gearbox and rear axle will be rebuilt with a limited slip differential to help improve traction in corners, stability under power and enhance performance in spirited or track driving. We are also fitting a Gen-V Heritage modern fuel injection system, built to mimic the look of classic carburettors. This will provide better reliability, better cold starts, fuel efficiency and tunability.
Some additional upgrades being incorporated into this 1975 Alfa Romeo GTV include a big brake kit and a Bilstein Road Handling Kit. The big brake kit replaces the original braking system with larger diameter discs and modern callipers, significantly improving stopping power, fade resistance, and overall safety, particularly at higher speeds. The Bilstein Road Handling Kit features sport springs and Bilstein dampers, delivering tighter, more responsive handling and reduced body roll, without compromising road comfort. Another enhancement we’re making to this Alfa Romeo GTV includes a custom wiring loom to improve reliability, electrical safety and ease of diagnosing future faults.
This Alfa Romeo GTV restomod will be the perfect blend of vintage character and modern performance. From its fast road-spec 2.0L engine and limited slip differential to the big brake kit, Bilstein handling upgrades, and custom EFI system, every element has been carefully chosen to enhance both drivability and reliability, whilst retaining its classic Italian flair. We will keep you up to date throughout the restoration process through our social media and website updates.
